Last season, the best seat in town for Monday Night Football was in front of the huge high definition movie screen at the State Theatre. Great sightlines, radio station giveaways, waitresses bringing food and drink to your table try to get that at home on your couch. The State isn’t hosting similar parties this year, so when the Washington Redskins or Virginia Tech are playing, I’d suggest you head over to the Arlington Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse, where every game will be projected larger than life, a selection of draft beers is available and servers bring burgers and wings to your table.
The house is a narrow two story, two bedroom, redbrick Colonial with two and a half baths, hardwood floors and a small kitchen. The focal point in the living room is a brick fireplace framed by bookshelves. At one time the bookshelves were full of the works of Frederico Garc Lorca, Pablo Neruda, Juana In de la Cruz, Octavio Paz and Pita Amor.
DC United used to have excellent relationships with supporter groups and RFK had one of the best atmospheres in the league. New ownership, staff turnover (although it more like attrition because as I understand it the DC United organization is running a skeleton crew with many underqualified people working several jobs at once) and a history of nickel and diming the fan experience as a way of staying afloat has led the front office to a place where what was once a central part of the fan experience is now just a problem that should be put aside and make as little noise as possible, both literally and figuratively. The front office set some conditions, the screaming eagles were the ones to play ball because the SE goals and DCU front office goals were relatively aligned, and the other groups got frozen out because they wanted certain concessions that, depending on your point of view, are reasonable or entitled.
Taking some chances might be worth it.TheBassCave 12 points submitted 8 months agoIf we set up like we did against Swansea or WBA, we’ll struggle again. Burnley at home are harder to break down than both of those sides and we’re going to have to come up with something other than crossing to get through them.Everton played a ponderous 4 4 2 against them in their last game and Burnley were so comfortable against it. The only time Everton looked remotely threatening was when Niasse and Calvert Lewin (and latterly Tom Davies) got hold of the ball and dribbled at them.
They wheel their kids around on a cargo bike with a wooden box carrying the children up front, taking them to and from school; this is Copenhagen take on a minivan. People just bike, and after arriving in the city myself, I soon found out why: it usually the fastest way to get around. So I rented a bike, too..
