Steering through long reeds, we pull into a little dirt harbor. Here, about 60 miles north of Baghdad, is the home of a branch of the Jubbour tribe. They’re a big Sunni group in this agricultural area and they want to tell me how they’ve halted the advance of the Islamic State..
In China their centralized imperial system became marked by a form of decentralized semi feudalism with the power leaving the imperial court and moving to lesser lords.Divgirl2 3 points submitted 1 month agoI travelled by train from the UK to Sarajevo and back over a month or so one summer, visiting 9 countries (more, maybe?). I didn’t have a route or end location planned, my ticket lasted a month and I wanted to see as much as I could in that time so I just took every day as it came.Ended up having my phone stolen in Serbia (got it back), mugged and left in the middle of nowhere in Bosnia (managed to find my hostel eventually) still the greatest trip I’ve ever taken and I’d love to do something similar again. I’d recommend travelling alone to anyone..

But his interview with the AP shed light on how he went from a graduate of one of the most exclusive and traditional institutions on Earth to a pariah within the ranks before being mustered out.He told the AP he tweeted the photos in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback who knelt during the national anthem in protest of police brutality, which itself drew intense criticism from President Trump for perceived slights against the military.Rapone also explained that his time inAfghanistan as an assistant machine gunner in the volatile Khost province in 2011 spurred an interest in radical social change, starting with the military.”We have one of the most technologically advanced militaries of all time and all we were doing is brutalizing and invading and terrorizing a population that had nothing to do with what the United States claimed was a threat,” he told the AP.There were fumes of idealism still left, he said, and he accepted one of the few prized slots to the academy reserved for enlisted soldiers. His time at the academy only deepened his socialist views.
